Editorial illustration evaluation

Today we handed in our ideas for the editorial illustrations and everyone put post it notes on the ones on the table with constructive critism and praise on them. Below is my list of  post it notes I received.

  • Nice bright colours, can clearly tell what article has been illustrated
  • Realistic to the situation, however might give too much away about the article
  • Perhaps a different point of view eg close up of burning toilet rolls with aeroplane in the background.
  • Very polished! Love the use of textures and your colour is attention grabbing! This is the one I'm the most drawn to.
  • Very stark dramatic. I really like the sky colours and flame effects combined with all the silhouettes.
  • Colours are strong and intense, brings attention to the image
  • This is a strong composition - the solution is a very literal interpretation.

Overall the responses I got for my editorial illustration were almost all positive. A few of them said it may give too much away about the article, but I think it gives away just enough. Just enough to interest but not enough so people don't need to read the article. I think its an intriguing amount.  I like how everyone commented on the bold colours, and the fact that someone said it was the first one on the table that their eyes were most drawn to, makes me happy it stood out. I am very proud of it  - overall yes I could have spent more time on the pineapples (I did rush it a little more to the end) It defiantly has room for improvement, but I'm very proud of the dramatic-ness of it. The colours are amazing and the black really contrasts nicely with them. The colours compliment each other.
